Knowing the Father

“No one has seen God at any time.

The Only Begotten Son, who is in the bosom

of the Father, He has declared Him.”

John 1:18

The Son of the Father's love alone was in a position to perfectly reveal God, who is light and love... So it is said of the Lord Jesus that He is "the image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15). The result of the revelation of God in the Son was glorification in the highest degree, for whenever God is revealed, He is glorified as well, since everything to do with God is glorious.

All the works that the Lord Jesus accomplished on earth were the Father's works. On account of their heavenly character they testified effectively that the Father had sent the Son. The Lord Jesus once said to His disciples, "Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me, or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves" (John 14:11).

The witness of the works was in perfect harmony with the testimony of His sayings, for "He whom God has sent speaks the words of God" (John 3:34). The Lord told what He had seen and heard from the Father and spoke as the Father had taught Him. When the Jews once asked Him who He was, He replied, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning;" and He told Philip, "He who has seen me has seen the Father" (John 8:25; 14:9).

Does it not fill our hearts with a sense of worship when we contemplate the deeds of the Only Begotten Son of God and ponder over His words, which are spirit and truth? The Holy Spirit wishes to bring us all to a better relationship and knowledge of our Father as we follow Jesus and abide in Him.
